Hearing Aid Discussion - Understanding Everyday’s Hearing Needs

The experience of using hearing aids comes different to everyone and often depends on factors such as age and the degree of loss of hearing abilities. While hearing aids are designed to help and fit your lifestyle, acceptance towards the need of having hearing aids greatly influences how one adapts and reacts.

It is often observed that people with a hearing impairment upon accepting the need for having hearing aids react differently by supplementing their own hearing with an amplified sound effect.
Aside from helping you hear better, hearing aids can also be used to keep distressing head noises (Tinnitus Management) in check.

How hearing aids can help you lead a better life?

Hearing impairment can limit the way you function. With hearing aids, not only you are taking a step towards correcting your hearing abilities but are also ensuring that you can perceive sounds more accurately.
With hearing impairments, oftentimes noises (including speech) will not be accurately perceived in normal levels of loudness. Aside from inability to perceive in normal loudness, a reduction in ability to differentiate sounds of speech is often observed (known as discrimination) and it often leads to reduction in understanding of surroundings.

Types of hearing losses

We provide reliable and effective solutions that are lasting and updated to the latest technologies. Our hearing aid discussion is here to help you understand types of hearing impairments and what causes them.

Conductive Hearing Loss

The human ear has three parts - the outer ear, the middle ear and the inner ear. Conductive hearing loss happens when sound cannot travel past the outer and the middle ear. This results in the inability to hear soft sounds and enveloping loud noises. Such hearing loss can be caused by excessive earwax blockage, presence of ear infections, a ruptured eardrum, fluid build-up in the ear.
Abnormal bone growth in the Middle Ear (a condition known as Otosclerosis) can cause Conductive Hearing Loss as well. With Conductive hearing loss hearing abilities can often be restored with medicine or surgery.

While surgery very much helps with the treatment of Conductive hearing loss, the audiometrist may provide Bone Conduction Hearing Aids, Bone Anchored Hearing Devices and Middle Ear Implants as hearing aid solutions.

Sensorineural Hearing Loss

When the organs responsible for hearing (the Cochlea and auditory nerve) is either damaged or does not function normally and fails to transmit electrical information accurately to the brain. In most cases, Sensorineural Hearing Loss is permanent and cannot be reversed with surgical methods.

With use of advanced technologies such as Hearing Aids, Cochlear Implants and Hybrid Cochlear Implants, Sensorineural Hearing Loss can be managed well.

Mixed Hearing Loss

The presence of Conductive Hearing Loss and Sensorineural Hearing Loss in the ear is known as Mixed Hearing Loss. While the Sensorineural Hearing Loss is permanent and cannot be treated, it can be managed extensively with hearing aids. The Conductive Hearing Loss can either the temporary or permanent and must be examined by the audiometrist to determine further course of treatment.
In the case of mixed hearing loss, the audiometrist will first focus on managing Conductive Hearing Loss before going forward with any rehabilitation.
